Our own, Liz Haines, did herself, Merion Golf Club and WGAP proud 
by going to the finals of the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship 
at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, CA. 
She lost in the finals 1 down to reinstated amateur, Carolyn Creekmore. 
Well done, Liz!

 


Tournament of Champions

Hosted by Lehigh Country Club, the Tournament of Champions 
was won by Gulph Mills’ Alexandra Frazier with a three over par 74. 
She also won this event in 2000 and 2001. 
Kerry Rutan was Runner-up.

Mary Thayer Farnum Cup

After 36 holes, they tied at 147. 
After an 18-hole playoff, they tied at 77. 
After the 4th extra hole, Pam Brown became the 
winner of the Mary Thayer Farnum Cup and the Silver Cross.

Boyle Cup

The weather cooperated.  The Boyle Cup was completed this year!  
WGAP President, Faythe Uminski, presented the cup to winners 
Trish Chawaga and Edmund Chylinski from Chester Valley.  
Runners-up are Spring-Ford's Beverly and John Brennan.

Griscom Cup

With a one over par 72, Judy and Brian Owens won the 
Fifty-fifth Annual Family Mixed Foursome for the Griscom Cup. 
Winners of Class B in 1993, they also won Low Gross of Field in 2001.

Women's Championship

6th = 1st

Meghan Bolger won her 6th consecutive Women's Match Play Championship. 
This is a 1st for Philadelphia Golf. 
At Riverton, Meghan defeated Alexandra Frazier and broke her own 
record of five consecutive wins set last year at Manufacturers.

Charles S. Powell Memorial Cup

With 56 points, Coatesville's Judith and Dave Uhrich 
won the 66th Annual Charles S. Powell Memorial Cup 
at White Manor Country Club.

Ida E. Dixon Cup

Another 4-way tie playoff was averted when Merion's Lindsay Forgash 
came in with a net 67 to win the Ida E. Dixon Cup at 
The Springhaven Club.

Mater et Filia

A 74 at Huntingdon Valley gave Sheila Selby and Kelly Rood 
a one stroke win and their fifth victory in the Mater et Filia.

Lady-Junior Girl

  After conducting the Junior Inter-City Matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, WGAP Junior Chairman, Pat Carbone, teamed with DuPont's Christine Shimel, won the Lady-Junior Girl on Thursday.  Their 78 was one stroke better than Green Valley's Marji Goldman and Ali Tutelman.

Effie Derr Robey Cup


The prospect of a four-way tie playoff was quickly eliminated when 
Philmont's Iris Sitkiin and Judith Kramer came in with a winning net of 69.

Inter-City Matches
 
Cathy Sibel, Meghan Bolger, Nancy Porter, Lisa McGill, Liz Haines (Captain), 
Lynne Thomson, Kerry Rutan, Alexandra Frazier, Bonnie George

Old friendships were renewed and new friendships made during the Inter-City Matches for the Griscom Cup at Rolling Green Golf Club. At the end of two delightful days, New York was the winner with 41-1/2 points. Philadelphia finished second scoring 35 points and Massachusetts, with 31-1/2 points, came in third. Nonna Barlow Cup

Loraine Jones and Liz Haines won the playoff for the Nonna Barlow Cup 
on May 28th. They had a 77, Ronnie Godshalk and Christine 
Hunt 78 and Janice Albert and Bonnie Kay 83.

2003 Annual Meeting

It didn't happen in 2002.  The Annual Meeting was cancelled due to a blizzard.  This year's Annual Meeting made it by one day.  We escaped the storm, amendments were approved, Adele Lebow was honored and Jack Connelly entertained everyone with his captivating talk about his experiences as President of the PGA of America.  Click here for pictures of the Annual Meeting.
